Little Legends is a community tool for parents, carers and people with children. Our aim is to help you find places for kids in the UK, and discover what other parents are saying about them.

This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.

    New featurette: Directions to places

I’ve just added a little feature to help people plan their journeys to places people have recommended. If the place has a postcode you should see the following option on the right of the page

    routes.png

If you type in the postcode you’re leaving from, a new window will open you and TransportDirect.info will let you know how to get there by public transport or car.

    Hope it helps!

    Making Little Legends Easier

Vicky and I have been chatting about ways to make Little Legends both more useful and easier to use. We’ve had some helpful suggestions from people to guide development, and I’m beginning to make some small, but hopefully worthwhile changes.

For the moment we’ve taken the groups feature down as we try to simplify things. Tags likewise we’ve moved to the Browse section. And so that people don’t keep on having to go to their account page to add a new place, we’ve put an “Add a place” button in the top bar. You still have to be logged in to add a place, though.

    Carnival of Family Life

Welcome to the October 29th edition of the Carnival of Family Life. There have been a huge number of entries this week so do have a look :)

I have loosely categorised the entries as follows:
    *Family & Parenting
    *Money
    *Worthwhile/ Good Ideas
    *Travel
    *Health, Wellbeing & Food
    *Relationships
    *Halloween

    FAMILY & PARENTING

kailani presents Sweet Dreams . . . Not! posted at An Island Life, saying, “A very tired Mommy needs some advice on how to get her child to go to sleep.”

    Putting faces to comments

Ever wondered what people who leave comments on your blog look like?

We’ve just installed a little plugin that lets us shows a picture of you next to any of your comments here.

But it only shows you if you’ve got what’s called - ahem - a “gravatar”.

    On a technical level,

A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Avatars help identify your posts on web forums, so why not on weblogs?

What children get up to online

A while back I gave a little talk at school to various parents about what their children got up to online, and how to go about keeping them safe. It’s not exhaustive, but I thought it might be an idea to share the slides here. (Some of the fonts got a little messed up during the transfer, but the aquamarine bits are clickable links)

The Baby Show and Free Business Promotion

I was at the Baby Show in Earls Court, London today handing out business cards to help spread the word about Little Legends. All the people I met were really interested in what we are doing here and I made some great contacts with other working parents.

If you met me today, or just have one of the cards, and are wondering how you go about obtaining free promotion for your child-related business, here is a quick summary:

    Carnival of British Parents

Welcome to the October 9, 2007 edition of Carnival of British Parents. British Parent Bloggers have been chatting about all sorts of issues this week:

Barefoot Paula reviews a whole range of Children’s Music over at Happy Tracks in the Snow

Erica discusses Butlins Redcoats Providing Parenting Advice over at Littlemummy.com

Vicky talks about Part-Time Work - The Worst of Both worlds? over at Manicmama

Unfortunately the other entries were not eligible because the bloggers were not UK parents.

    That concludes this edition.

Watch this space for details of the next edition :)

    If you are wondering …

… why it has been a bit quiet around here lately, it is because my maternity leave has just finished and I am back at work (as is Piers). However, there is still lots of activity behind the scenes so do stop by again soon.

If you are missing me then why not pop over to my personal blog here

Or perhaps you are missing Piers, in which case his blog is over here
