    Teaching Kids How to Knit

    logo1.jpg

Recently, my six-year-old son came home and asked me to teach him how to knit. (Yes, boys knit too!) I knitted a bit as a child but couldn’t remember how to start. So, I decided that I would learn how to knit in order to teach my son.

The thing is that now I have started I don’t want to stop!

Several other mothers I know have told me that their kids are keen to learn knitting too, so I decided to create a website to help out all those novice knitters. It is called the How to Knit Guide

I have included a special section on Knitting for Kids.

My advice is to start kids off with a bit of finger knitting or french knitting.

It is great fun and a great way to just hang out with your children.

    Happy knitting!

I’ve been trying to learn knitting, but my son keeps undoing everything I’ve done so I’ve pretty much given up. LOL Maybe when he’s older and learns to leave my stuff alone I’ll try again.

I had a similar experience myself when my son brought a ball of wool and two needles home and asked me to knit him a scarf! I must admit I had to turn to grandma for help

I love hearing about kids learning to knit. When we were very young, my grandmother taught my sister and I to cork, we did all kinds of pot holders, my grandfathers aunt used hers until the day she died.

It instilled in me a lifelong love of knitting, although I must admit I haven’t picked it up for a long time. At one time I never left the house without my knitting and usually knit with my morning coffee before the kids woke up.

There’s something so satisfying about it, and also centering and calming (unless you screw it up :0))

      Thanks for the reminder.
