Little Legends is a community tool for parents, carers and people with children. Our aim is to help you find places for kids in the UK, and discover what other parents are saying about them.

This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.

    Testing Open Comments

Until now, to comment on any of the places people have listed on Little Legends, you had to log in. It’s a little later than expected [ahem, … I had reports to write], but I’ve changed things so that now anyone can comment on our main site, just as they can here on the blog.

    As I said then

there are some obvious spam issues, but opening things up as much as possible is - we believe - good news for everyone. If it’s easier to share your views then it’s easier for others to benefit from reading them.

    Site outage

Just so people know, much of Little Legends main site will be down for hopefully not more than 48 hours to make some critical updates.

Sorry & thanks for your patience.

    Upgrading to Wordpress 2.3

We’re upgrading our blog engine, so if things stop working here for a while, that’ll be why. Back soon!

[Update 1: OK, so it’s basically working. Some things are looking a little weird, and the tags need to be upgraded, but service is resumed.]

[Update 2: Tags are now working.]

    New featurette: Directions to places

I’ve just added a little feature to help people plan their journeys to places people have recommended. If the place has a postcode you should see the following option on the right of the page

    routes.png

If you type in the postcode you’re leaving from, a new window will open you and TransportDirect.info will let you know how to get there by public transport or car.

    Hope it helps!

    Online Resource for Parents

Little Legends has been given a great review on page 67 of issue 170 Webuser Magazine :)

Little Legends is an online resource for parents. It’s designed to help them discover resources for children around the country - from finding childcare and nurseries to learning about days out and family-friendly restaurants.

In addition to a great clean look, the site benefits from an advanced search facility using Google Maps, making it easy to home in on local events and services. Vicky Wood and her brother Piers have done an excellent job of putting together a truly valuable website. Not only are there pages themselves incredibly useful, but there are numerous links to other blogs and sites that could be of interest to parents.

    New: Carnival of British Parents

Seeing as there are a growing number of British parent bloggers I thought it would be a good idea to start a Carnival just for us :)

For those of you who don’t know what a blog carnival is, it is a type of blog event, dedicated to a specific topic. The host asks readers to submit relevant articles and then publishes links to them on a regular basis.

If you want to join in, all you have to do is send in a link to your best post about life as a parent in the UK. All links must be sent to me using this form. Only one submission per blog will be accepted.

What does the future hold for Little Legends?

Little Legends has been reviewed over at Killer Start Ups. You can vote to decide whether or not we make it big, just survive or totally bomb!

They think it might be a killer because:

A site like this will be an awesome tool for parents living in England, what a great resource to find out information about where to take your kids, and what is more research worthy than the safety of your children?

    What do you think?

    Blimey!

Amazing what a bit of elbow grease, a shoestring budget and some fantastic parents can do! :)

    FrostFireBuzz.com

“have put together a list of the most promising and exciting Internet Startups from the Europe.”

And we’re in it. When I say we, I mean Vicky, me and everyone who’s taken the time to add their favourite places or comment.

Thanks - and do please keep letting us know how we can make LL more useful to you.

    New Widget for Bloggers

We’ve just made a little “widget” so that you can share some of comments on places at Little Legends via your own blog’s sidebar. We’re calling it “My Little Comments”

    My Little Comments
To show the last 10 places you’ve commented on in Little Legends, you can put the following code in your side bar:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.littlelegends.biz/people/Login/widget/my_comments">
    </script>

Login is the login for your Little Legends account. You can check your page at Little Legends to see what you should type. For example, Vicky’s page is at

    http://www.littlelegends.biz/people/Vicky

so she would replace Login with Vicky

    And the winner is …

Piers and I have put our heads together and after much deliberation we have chosen Mother at Large and Browny as joint winners. That means they will each receive £50 :) Congratulations!

Mother at Large wrote a very helpful comment on Pentlands Hills Regional Park:
